Islamabad City Guide . Islamabad National Park

The National Park area is essentially the entire area

Daman-e-Koh

Daman-e-Koh Viewpoint is probably the most popular tourist and scenic attraction in Islamabad. Literally translating to 'Heart of the Mountain', this viewpoint has some of the most spectacular views of the capital city. The perspective, a bird's eye view from South over the city is indeed breathtaking. Islamabad's neat avenues and straight roads stretch out below you, with a clear view of the President's Palace, the Legislative Assembly, and the Prime Minister's Secretariat being the most prominent towards the east. The magnificent Shah Faisal Mosque can be seen on the Western side with absolute clarity on a good day. Proceed northwards on Margallah Road, turn left on 7th Avenue and follow the road signs up to Daman-e-Koh.

Peer Sohawa

Further up from Daman-e-Koh is the beautiful spot of Peer Sohawa. Up until very recently, the approach road was dangerous and narrow. The CDA has just completed rehabilitation work on, including installing street lights for guidance, making it much more accessible. The views from this particular spot are magnificent, with Islamabad and Rawalpindi stretching out to as far as the horizon. The place has received another attraction with the newly opened restaurant the Monal, which serves exquisite food. Their terraces and viewing platforms are well landscaped, providing every visitor with a spectacular view of the capital, especially at night.

Shakar Parian

In-between the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are the Shakar Parian Hills. This area is divided into two main viewpoints, the Eastern and the Western. The eastern viewpoint has beautiful cascaded lawns and terraces, with beautiful views of the city of Islamabad. The Sports Complex, Aabpaara Market beyond, the Kashmir Highway all the way to the Convention Centre and beyond is visible. The western viewpoint overlooks the historic twin city of Rawalpindi, providing the visitor a beautiful view. The entire area has numerous other attractions, including the Natural History Museum, the Lok Virsa Museum, and the Lotus Lake. To get there, take Islamabad Highway towards Rawalpindi and turn left from the Shakar Parian turning. Very easy to find.

Caravan Park for foreigners

An interesting facility, modeled around international caravan parks, the Islamabad Caravan Park is a little distance away from the Shakar Parian Hills. This park is open and accessible only for foreigners, making it exclusive and safe. Adequate facilities are provided to make visitors to the area comfortable and at home.
