In 1581, Emperor Akbar the Great, Babar’s grandson, understood the strategic value of this region and constructed the renowned Attock Fort Complex. Sikhs in Punjab and Durrani Afghans in the West rose to prominence after the Mughal Empire fell in the eighteenth century.
